Orlando Pirates have climbed up the DStv Premiership log table after a comfortable 2-0 win over Cape Town City at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday night.
Zakhele Lepasa and Patrick Maswanganyi were both on target and that sealed the victory for the Buccaneers in front of a decent turnout at Orlando Stadium.
Lepasa picked up from where he left off over the weekend and continued his impressive goal scoring form, when he found the top corner with a venomous strike from the edge of the box nine minutes into the game – leaving a fully stretched Darren Keet with no chance.
The Buccaneers dominated play and enjoyed most of the ball position, with the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng and Maswanganyi combining and posing a threat in front of goal.
City tried getting back into the game, but consecutive efforts from Tshegofatso Nyama and Thabiso Kutumela were not enough to trouble goalkeeper Sipho Chaine and went into the half-time break trailing by one goal.
Moments into the second half, City midfielder Taahir Goedeman got a golden opportunity to level matters, but his half-volley inside the box went wide off the post.
The game started to open up, as both coaches looked to their benches and made much needed changes.
The Citizens enjoyed a good short spell, with substitute Khanyisa Mayo almost causing a scare when his deflected short from range being punched over the post by Chaine, who did not want to take chances.
Pirates put the game to bed and found the second goal of the night through Maswanganyi, who tapped in a cross from Deon Hotto in the 75th minute.
The win sees the Sea Robbers move up to number four on the log standings with seven points, with City losing three games in a row – leaving coach Eric Tinkler with a lot to think about.
