The Betway Premiership league title race between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will be decided on the last two or three games, according to the legendary Jomo Sono.
Pirates and Sundowns remain on each other’s necks in the league title race, as they are currently separated by one point at the top of the summit, with less than five games remaining.
Down to the wire
The Buccaneers and Masandawana dropped two valuable points over the weekend, when they drew against Kaizer Chiefs and Richards Bay FC, respectively, to continue taking what has been a pulsating title race to the wire.
“I will be honest about this title race; it is not going to be easy towards the end,” Sono said during coach Pitso Mosimane’s GDL debut at the weekend.
‘Both teams will drop points’
“I think there’s about four games left, and I believe that they [Pirates and Sundowns] will drop points along the way, both teams will drop points on the way, for sure.
“So, we don’t know which one is going to drop more, but both teams will drop points. There will be points dropped somewhere, or donated somewhere, for sure.
“The title race will be decided in the last two games of the league. Not now. The last two games will decide who wins the league, and it would be nice to see Pirates finally win it this time around.”
Win over City crucial for Downs
Pirates will return to action next Tuesday, when they take on Stellenbosch FC. Sundowns, on the other hand, will be playing catch-up and playing their game in hand on Wednesday night against a tricky Polokwane City side at the Seshego Stadium, before returning home to host Rise and Shine in Loftus on Sunday.
Bucs currently sit on top of the log with 59 points, while Sundowns are in second place with 58 and could move above their rivals with a win over City.
