Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso says it is not a fluke that his team has been nominated in so many categories in the upcoming PSL Awards, which will be held on Tuesday night.
Sundowns will go toe-to-toe against Orlando Pirates, who are also nominated in various categories.
Cardoso and his players Ronwen Williams, Grant Kekana, Teboho Mokoena, Marcelo Allende, Iqraam Rayners, Malibongwe Khoza, Gomolemo Kekana of the Diski Team, and Lucas Ribeiro are the nine that made it on the top PSL list.
They stand a chance to scoop top accolades at the awards ceremony.
Sundowns also had an impressive outing in the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup, which was held in the US recently.
The Portuguese, who is the favourite for the Betway Premiership Coach of the Season, has had a spectacular seven months in his debut season in the PSL.
He scooped three Coach of the Month accolades this season. The tactician expressed his joy, lauded, and gave credence to his side for the nominations.
Cardoso credits entire coaching staff
“The nomination is a reflection of our work and the level of determination we showed throughout the season from both the coaching staff and players. I am happy for all these players for being recognised for their great work,” he said.
“The nominations are because of all the work from the coaching staff — ultimately it is the work of the players, the dedication. I see it as a joint operation and joint work; it’s about a big team of people in the club.”
He continued: “I’m very thankful for the opportunities that allowed me to show the capacity to lead a time like ours.
“From that, we have obtained results that have also led to me being recognised not only in the PSL but also in my birth country.
“Credit needs to be given to the rest of the coaching staff because I didn’t do this alone.”
