Distressed PSL still looking for new sponsor

It has emerged that one of the reasons the PSL is not able to clinch a replacement after DStv pulled out as the leagueā€™s title sponsors, is that it is scrambling around and struggling to find a funder that will match the DStv sponsorship.Ā Ā

The word at MultiChoiceā€™s swanky offices in Randburg is that the ball is now in the PSLā€™s court to make an announcement regarding DStv breaking its contractual obligation with a year remaining on their agreement. The contract was supposed to end in September next year.Ā

This has left the PSL in a state of distress.Ā

PSL bosses and MultiChoice officials have remained mum since the cat was let out of the bag that the pay-channel was ending its sponsorship of the DStv Premiership. The broadcaster is also the sponsor of the DStv Diski Challenge.Ā

PSL bosses are running against time to find a new sponsor before fixtures for the 2024/25 season are released. Usually, the fixture schedule is announced in mid-July.Ā

When asked about the implications of DStv withdrawing its sponsorship, TS Galaxy chairperson Tim Sukazi said: ā€œEven though I am not privy to the information, I have trust and confidence in our chairman [Irvin Khoza]. We are in good hands.ā€Ā Ā

The PSL is expected to make an announcement regarding the matter this week.Ā Ā

Ā Khoza was not available for comment yesterday.Ā
