Distressed PSL still looking for new sponsor

It has emerged that one of the reasons the PSL is not able to clinch a replacement after DStv pulled out as the league’s title sponsors, is that it is scrambling around and struggling to find a funder that will match the DStv sponsorship.

The word at MultiChoice’s swanky offices in Randburg is that the ball is now in the PSL’s court to make an announcement regarding DStv breaking its contractual obligation with a year remaining on their agreement. The contract was supposed to end in September next year.

This has left the PSL in a state of distress.

PSL bosses and MultiChoice officials have remained mum since the cat was let out of the bag that the pay-channel was ending its sponsorship of the DStv Premiership. The broadcaster is also the sponsor of the DStv Diski Challenge.

PSL bosses are running against time to find a new sponsor before fixtures for the 2024/25 season are released. Usually, the fixture schedule is announced in mid-July.

When asked about the implications of DStv withdrawing its sponsorship, TS Galaxy chairperson Tim Sukazi said: “Even though I am not privy to the information, I have trust and confidence in our chairman [Irvin Khoza]. We are in good hands.”

The PSL is expected to make an announcement regarding the matter this week.

Khoza was not available for comment yesterday.
