Du Preez yet to reach his Amakhosi goal scoring target

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez believes he has not reached his individual set goals in his first season with the Soweto giants.

Du Preez joined the Glamour Boys from Stellenbosch FC in July 2022, where he was banging in goals for fun.

However, he has seemingly found it difficult to hit the ground running to replicate his performance from last season, only managing to find the back of the net four times in the league this season.

Speaking to media ahead of a must-win encounter with Marumo Gallants at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, du Preez said he has not achieved his desirable 10-goal mark.

“I haven’t achieved my goals yet,” said Du Preez.

“In the beginning [of the season] my goal was to score 10 goals and I currently have four goals in the league and have seven goals in all competitions.

“So, I am not happy at the moment because I believe I can do more. There are six more games to go in the league including the cup game, so my aim now is to score in every remaining game.”

The former Stellies goal machine also expressed his dissatisfaction on the number of missed opportunities, as Amakhosi may rue not converting their chances come end of the season.

“We have been creating chances and I think as individuals, we want to create more chances and take them.

“If we create chances and but not converting so that’s where we need to work on in training, to sharpen our finishing.

“I am not happy [with the goal scoring rate], I think we can do better. We need to find our feet and convert those chances. Things would have been different if we had taken our opportunities,” du Preez added.
