With the Fifa international break now over and domestic football back in full swing, Moroka Swallows will be looking to add to Kaizer Chiefs’ troubles when they cross swords at the Dobsonville Stadium this afternoon at 3:30pm.
It will be back-to-back Soweto derby outings for Amakhosi following their disappointing 1-0 defeat against fierce rivals Orlando Pirates two weeks ago in the DStv Premiership.
Swallows have been astonishingly decent and exciting to watch under the mentorship of well-travelled and former Chiefs coach Steve Komphela.
The Dube Birds find themselves sitting comfortably inside the top eight after 10 games in the league – winning five, drawing three and losing two.
Chiefs, on the other hand, have been blowing hot and cold since the start of the season – losing more matches than they have won in their last 12 league games. The Glamour Boys have lost six matches, drawing two and only registering four wins.
Interim coach Cavin Johnson will be desperate to return to winning ways and record his second win since taking over from the fired Molefi Ntseki last month.
Swallows captain and midfield workhorse Tlakusani Mthethwa admitted that they will be under pressure to get maximum points against limping Amakhosi, following their disappointing goalless draw in their last league encounter against Polokwane City.
“Usually before every game we have a plan on where we think we will collect points, either a draw or three points,” Mthethwa said.
“Since we dropped unnecessary points against Richards Bay [lost 2-1] and Polokwane City [drew 0-0], the next one will be a must-win for us.
“It will be our home game, so we need to win. There will be no excuses for losing or getting a draw – we will be going for nothing but a straight win.”
The encounter will also see a host of former players going up against their former employers, with winger Kamohelo Mahlatsi being the latest to join cross-town rivals, after being spotted training with the Dube Birds recently following his unsuccessful stint at Naturena.
