Marumo Gallants coach Dylan Kerr has confirmed to Sunday World that Mpho Maleka will be his assistant coach next season, which leaves the former Moroka Swallows technical team led by Musa Nyatama and Ditheko Mototo completely out of work.
Last week, this publication revealed that Nyatama, his fellow technical team members and some players had been left in limbo after Swallows sold their Premier Soccer League status to Gallants recently.
“Well, as far as I’m concerned, Mpho Maleka is going to be my assistant coach until I decide otherwise. I don’t know the ins and outs of the Swallows contracted players or contracted members of staff,” Kerr said.
“As far as I’m aware, [the contractual issues are] now with the lawyers, it’s now with this trust fund from the transition of the buying club and the selling club.
“So, I haven’t, you know … I can’t comment on that because obviously, I don’t know. I don’t know. I was under the impression that Musa wasn’t under contract; … unless he signed one that I didn’t know.”
According to Nyatama, he still has one more year remaining on his contract with Swallows. New owners are compelled to take players, coaches and staff members who were contracted to the previous owners or the selling club.
Recently during a press briefing, Gallants confirmed that a total of 13 players who still had ongoing contracts with Swallows would remain with the club ahead of the new season.
New owners are also compelled to take players, coaches, and staff members who were contracted to the previous owners/club.
Kerr also expressed his concerns about the large number of players who are currently in camp with Gallants, saying that the technical team is racing against time to get the team ready.
“In my first training, I had a total of 57 players; some were contracted, others recently ran out of contracts, and others are trialists.
“But the squad is not where it should be. So, the clock’s ticking; the day to kick off is ever becoming closer and we must try and figure a way of making the squad accessible enough for when we must register players with the PSL that we do it the right way and we do it with the right people,” Kerr added.
