Merely hours after dropping a bombshell that they have parted ways with their embattled coach Molefi Ntseki on Monday, Kaizer Chiefs were once again charged by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary committee for spectator misconduct.
This after the club supporters displayed violent behavior after the final whistle against AmaZulu, who knocked them out in the first round of the Carling Black Label Knockout on Saturday.
The last straw
The defeat to Usuthu and the violent scenes that followed were the last straw, leading to Chiefs management dropping the axe on Ntseki after four months in the hot seat.
“I hereby confirm that earlier this afternoon [Monday], I preferred charges of spectator misbehaviour and unruly conduct against Kaizer Chiefs as a sequel to what transpired in their recent match against AmaZulu this past Saturday,” said PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu.
“They will be appearing before the PSL on 31 October 2023 at 11.30am.
“Until then, as per usual, there will be no running commentary on the matter, and I will formally announce the outcome once the PSL DC [disciplinary committee] has pronounced itself on the matter.”
Coaching staff attacked
It was the third time that Kaizer Chiefs supporters behaved violently and aimed projectiles at Ntseki after a match defeat.
Throngs of Chiefs fans also revolted when Amakhosi lost to TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium in August.
After that, they took out their frustrations on the coaching staff after a defeat at the hands of SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in September.
Following the violent scenes at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, the PSL DC warned that Amakhosi fans risked a ban from attending Chiefs matches.
“[This] will affect other innocent spectators or fans of the club they [Chiefs] are scheduled to play next,” Majavu said early in October.
“For practical considerations, it would simply mean that a particular fixture will be played without fans on both sides of the teams’ fixture against each other.”
Amakhosi have since appointed Cavin Johnson as the interim head coach while Dillon Sheppard will act as his assistant.
Johnson will be expected to hit the ground running when the Soweto giants travel to high-flying Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
