With the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup fever building up, Banyana Banyana will have a send-off match against Botswana and entrance will be free at the Tsakane Stadium on Sunday.
This week, the South African Football Association (Safa) announced that Banyana will play an international friendly with neighbouring country Botswana before they jet off to raise the SA flag at the World Cup.
Banyana coach Desiree Ellis announced her final 23-member World Cup-bound squad last week. South Africa are amongst the four African nations that will represent the continent at the global showpiece alongside Zambia, Morocco, and Nigeria.
“We just want to thank the Football Association getting us a send-off match,” Ellis told www.safa.net.
“We know it has been a difficult task, we are grateful, and we ask the fans to come out in their numbers to support this team and to give us a fantastic send-off. We look forward to playing the match and we thank Botswana as well for coming forward to play this send-off match.
“It’s a huge match for us, the last match before we leave the shores of South Africa. We really want to put up a good performance and again we urge the fans to come out and really give us a fantastic send-off.”
Entry into the stadium will be free, with complimentary tickets set to be made available to the public at the venue from Thursday.
The global showpiece will be staged in Australia and New Zealand on July 20, with the African champions set to kick-off their World Cup campaign against Sweden in Group G.
