Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has a coffee meeting lined up with Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos after the team’s two international friendly matches.
This after Broos accused both Sundowns and Egyptian giants Al Ahly for miscommunication amid last-minute player withdrawals from the national team.
The Belgium international expressed his disappointment during a press briefing at the Tuks High Performance Centre in Pretoria on Monday after talisman Percy Tau pulled out of the national team ahead of their clash against Eswatini and Ivory Coast, respectively.
“I had contact with Percy last week and he said for family reasons, he wouldn’t like to be here with us,” Broos said.
“I am not amused that he played [on Sunday] for Al Ahly [against Ismaily in a 3-1 victory]. Unfortunately, this camp is again disturbed by injuries like last month.
“[Thapelo] Maseko is something different … it’s the second time that we have had that surprise that a player is injured then suddenly he plays [for his club].”
Maseko came on as a substitute for Sundowns during their MTN8 final defeat against Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium at the weekend.
In his defense, without giving much away, Mokwena said he will have a meeting with Broos to dispel the confusion regarding the Maseko.
“I [sometimes] have coffee with coach Hugo and we have a coffee meeting lined up,” Mokwena told the media during the Carling Black Label Knockout launch on Tuesday.
“It’s a pity that when we were supposed to meet recently, he said he will be away, but we will talk. Maseko and the injury issue will be one of many things that we will discuss.
“We will discuss like professionals, we’ll have a very nice conversation.”
Sundowns were drawn against TS Galaxy in the newly launched knockout cup competition. The dates and venues for all the matches are yet to be confirmed by the Premier Soccer League.
