I see myself a lot in coach Pitso – Teko Modise

“There is a lot that I see from coach Pitso [Mosimane] that I now see in myself,” according to former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns dribbling wizard Teko Modise.

Modise was one of top local players to ever grace the pitch, winning two PSL Player of the Season awards and earning himself 66 international caps for the national team before hanging his boots in 2019.

Recently, the 40-year-old 2023 Nedbank Cup ambassador admitted having made hasty financial decisions during his glittering career, but drawing inspiration from Mosimane helped him bounce back and make better choices.

“What I see in myself from Pitso is that he is a winner – whether in life or in football. He wants to win, he does whatever it takes to win, and he works hard,” said Modise.

“He is one of the few coaches that I know don’t sleep, he would tell me about a game he was watching at 4am, it is just insane the amount of work he puts in.

“When it comes to me, it’s the same thing. All I know is to work hard and that is one of the things I see in him, and he continues to do that, to fly the South African flag high wherever he goes.

“I think he also likes projects. He likes starting from scratch and making something out of nothing.”

Modise was spot on in his analysis, as Mosimane is reportedly a free agent after terminating his contract with Al Ahli Saudi, weeks after winning the Yelo League title and guiding them back to the Saudi Pro League.

Mosimane and Ahli are yet to release a statement to confirm the news.
