Despite still being out on the sidelines due to recovery from injury, Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel says he is out of rehab and ready for the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday.
Amakhosi will be engaged in a crucial Soweto derby battle against rivals Orlando Pirates, when they confront each other at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. The game is set to kick off at 3:30pm.
The two Soweto rivals will be meeting each other for the second time in a space of seven days following their Betway Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium last Saturday.
Pirates were victorious after making a comeback to snatch all three points and bragging rights with a 2-1 win.
Nedbank final will be different
The Nedbank Cup final will, though, be a different ballgame altogether. There will be a lot more riding on the encounter.
Pirates will be looking to defend their title and help the outgoing coach, Jose Riveiro, bow out on a high. Amakhosi, on the other hand, will be desperate to end their decade-long trophy drought.
Miguel, who was on the bench and missed the previous derby due to match fitness after recovering from an injury, said that he has told the Chiefs medical team that he is more than ready for the final.
More than ready for the final
“I am more than ready for the final. It’s a final, you don’t even have to think twice, even if you’re injured. I wanted to play even the Marumo [Gallants] game. Of course, it’s the injury that made me stop for three weeks,” Miguel told the media at the Chiefs Village in Naturena on Monday.
“I just came back last week … it was just management by the coaches. They preferred to rest me. The yellow cards may have had some impact on that decision. [He’s on three yellow cards and one away from a one-game ban].”
“I am still recovering, I am still doing my rehab. But this week there’s no time for rehab, there’s no time for doctors. Don’t put me in the doctor’s room. I’ve already told them [the medical team], I am going straight to the field to help the team.”
