Jessica Motaung asks Chiefs fanbase to be calm during transfer window

It is that time of the season when clubs in the Premier Soccer League are bolstering their squads for the upcoming season by signing and releasing players.

In most cases, the transfer window is an exciting period for football fans as their respective clubs unveil their latest signings and release some players in the process.

Orlando Pirates supporters are probably the most excited fan base at this point, as their club has been visibly active on the market.

Pirates unveiled eight new players this week alone, including the man who will take over as coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou.

However, it is a different story altogether for their crosstown rival Kaizer Chiefs supporters, who have been left in suspense and are yet to know which new players have been acquired by Amakhosi.

Players back in camp

Speaking to the media after the launch of the Toyota Cup at the Chiefs Village in Naturena on Thursday, Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung pleaded with the fans to be patient, as the club is working tirelessly behind the scenes to beef up the squad.

“First and foremost, we have to be fair. There are always challenges for players, and I am grateful for the players who dedicated themselves to Chiefs, from the past and present,” she said.

“Sometimes things work out; sometimes they don’t. The technical team are working hard, and they have the support of the chairman.

“Every team goes through cycles and challenges. We are fortunate to have had years and years of success, and winning the Nedbank Cup has given us an opportunity to exhale.

“We are asking our supporters to be patient and allow us to have our I’s dotted and our T’s crossed. We will make our announcement, so please allow the information to come from us.”

Motaung also confirmed that coach Nasreddine Nabi and the players are back in camp preparing for their upcoming pre-season tour in the Netherlands next month.

Amakhosi will then host Asante Kotoko from Ghana in the second edition of the Toyota Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 26 July.
