Kaizer Chiefs celebrated another proud milestone this week as three of their coaches have successfully obtained their CAF A diplomas after completing the required courses.
Junior teams and development coaches Rory Minnaar, Jimmy Jambo, and Unathi “Nutty” Mabena completed their achievements this past weekend.
“We are extremely proud of the trio. Coaches Jimmy, Rory, and Unathi have made us proud with this achievement, which allows them to coach at the highest level in international football. It’s a remarkable accomplishment for the club and our players,” Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr said on the club’s website.
Minnaar currently serves as the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy (KCYDA) goalkeeper coach and is one of only five goalkeeper coaches in the country who hold this qualification; Jambo oversees the Under-15 side, while Mabena leads the newly introduced KC Ladies team.
“Modern football requires coaches to continuously stay up to date with the latest developments, and we want to ensure that high-level coaching is available not only for the senior team but across all seven teams representing Kaizer Chiefs,” Motaung continues.
The coaches join other CAF A-licensed coaches, Vela Khumalo and Mohammed Bhamjee, who are also part of the KCYDA.
“We trust in the ability of our coaches to impart their acquired knowledge and expertise to our boys in the KCYDA and with our young ladies as they compete in the Gauteng Development League, DStv Diski Challenge and the Sasol League.”
Meanwhile, Chiefs will be spending part of the Easter weekend on the road as they travel to Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape to face Orbit College in a Betway Premiership clash on Easter Monday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
The Rustenburg-based side relocated the match in anticipation of accommodating the large crowds expected for this encounter. With the final FIFA international break of the current season concluded, Amakhosi will be eager to maintain their good form, having secured back-to-back victories against Durban City and Magesi FC in their last two matches.
On the log, Chiefs currently sit in fourth place with 36 points from 20 games. The hosts, Orbit College, are fighting to avoid relegation and presently lie second from the bottom with 18 points after 22 matches.
The reverse fixture, which was hosted at FNB Stadium in November, produced five goals, with Chiefs winning the first-ever meeting against the newly-promoted side 4-1.
