Kaizer Chiefs Ladies will finally line up for their first official match on Sunday afternoon since the team was launched on March 31 in Daveyton.
Amakhosi Ladies will face Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in the opening game of the 2026 Gauteng Women’s Provincial League season at the Tsakane Stadium in Brakpan.
The game is scheduled to get underway at 1pm and fans will be allowed to enter for free. The Gauteng Women’s Provincial League was previously called the Sasol League.
Chiefs excited ahead of debut
Chiefs Ladies head coach Unathi Mabena told the club website that her team is beaming with excitement as their debut draws close.
“The players are excited, but naturally there is also anxiety because this is such a big occasion for everyone involved,” Mabena said.
“To represent the biggest football brand in the country is an honour, and the players understand the responsibility that comes with wearing this badge. We also must be realistic and manage expectations.
“We are facing a team that has been competing consistently in this environment for a long time and has produced strong performances over the years. For us, this is the beginning of a process. We are building something, and moments like these are part of that journey,” she added.
‘Building pathways for women in the game’
The Glamour club finally entered the fray of having a women’s team by collaborating with the Springs Home Sweepers, which was under the leadership of former player Joseph Mkhonza.
“This is about building real pathways for women in the game. The women’s game is growing rapidly across the world, and South Africa is part of that upward trajectory,” said marketing and commercial director of the club, Jessica Motaung.
“We want female soccer players to see this team and understand that there is a place for them within Kaizer Chiefs and within the global game. We are grateful to SAFA for their continued support and to Brima Logistics [official sponsor] for their commitment to this project.
“The support of corporate investment cannot be underestimated as it plays a critical role in the holistic development of the women’s game, providing stability and belief needed to build the game at every level.”
The team will be hoping to gain promotion to the Hollywoodbet Super League next season.
