Kaizer Chiefs confirm the exit of striker Ranga Chivaviro

Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed that they will not be extending the contract of striker Ranga Chivaviro when it expires at the end of June.

“Kaizer Chiefs will not be extending striker Ranga Chivaviro’s contract when it expires at the end of the month,” Amakhosi said in a statement on Wednesday.

“We thank Ranga for his positive contribution to the team and wish him all the best in his future exploits.”

Chivaviro leaves the reigning Nedbank Cup champions having managed nine goals and one assist in 45 games.

Despite his impressive spell at Marumo Gallants, where he scored 17 goals across all competitions, the 32-year-old failed to meet the high expectations when he joined Amakhosi two seasons ago.

He also assisted Gallants in making it to the CAF Confederations Cup’s historic semifinal.

Third player to leave Chiefs in recent weeks

The lanky striker joins Sabelo Radebe and Njabulo Blom as the third Amakhosi player to be released ahead of the new Premier Soccer League season.

Blom will rejoin St Louis City SC, his parent club in Major League Soccer in the US.

Chiefs will likely release more players in the upcoming weeks as they attempt to reassemble and strengthen their squad in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

The Glamour Boys endured a challenging Betway Premiership season, culminating in a disappointing goalless draw against Polokwane City in their last game of the season, which led to their ninth-place finish.

This is even though the team’s 10-year trophy drought was ended by head coach Nasreddine Nabi when they defeated Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.

Nabi will need to build a much better and more formidable team, as Amakhosi will be competing in the Confederations Cup next season due to their victory in the Nedbank Cup.

Since Chiefs will not be competing in the MTN8, they are already behind in trophies heading into the upcoming season.
