Kermit Erasmus may return to haunt former club

Orlando Pirates will return to league action on Tuesday night when they host the tricky Cape Town City at the Orlando Stadium.

The match will get underway at 7.30pm.

Pirates were engaged in Caf Champions League preliminary round matches against Comoros champions Djabal Club where they qualified for the next round comfortably with a 4-0 aggregate score.

Good news for the Buccaneers is that key striker Kermit Erasmus may make his return after missing the start of the season due to injury, he is now back and training full time. Pirates, who won two trophies last season, are sitting on number ten position with four points in three matches and this is a bit of a concern for their supporters and coach Jose Riveiro.

The fixture takes place exactly two weeks after their most recent league outing, a goalless stalemate away to Chippa United. That result took the Buccaneers’ points tally to four in the DStv Premiership, following defeat in their season opener and a comfortable 4-2 win against Royal AM in their only home league fixture played so far.

Across competitions, Pirates have been especially clinical at Orlando Stadium, winning all three of their home games and netting 12 goals while conceding just twice. The last of these victories came last Friday, where they scored three unanswered goals against Djabal.

They now take on a City outfit whose campaign has taken an unwanted turn, following a bright start. The men from the Mother City have taken to the field four times in the league this season, winning their first two fixtures before suffering two consecutive defeats.

Having also played a cup game, their current losing streak is now sitting at three games, and they will be desperate to overturn their fortunes at Orlando Stadium.
