Khanye adamant Ertugral will topple Amakhosi

Former Kaizer Chiefs dribbling wizard Junior Khanye never ceases to amaze, and is at it again, as he is adamant that his former club will start the new year on the backfoot with a defeat to Cape Town City this evening at the Cape Town Stadium at 5:45pm.

Amakhosi will not only be facing off against City but also their former mentor Mushin
Ertugral, who was appointed last week after the club sacked the embattled Eric Tinkler.

Khanye, who spoke to Sunday World ahead of the mouthwatering encounter, said that as much as he is not in favour of the decision to fire Tinkler at such a critical phase of the season, Ertugral will inspire City to a famous win over Chiefs.

“It’s unfortunate that City released Eric Tinkler now because he is a good coach, regardless of the struggles he had of not getting results,” Khanye said.

“But Mushin is here, and he is also a coach that I admire a lot because I remember he wanted to promote me to the first team during my time at Chiefs.

“Cape Town City is going to beat Kaizer Chiefs, because Mushin knows Chiefs very well, and SA football as a whole.”

Amakhosi will be looking to pick up from where they left off last year and enter 2025 with a win against City.

The Glamour Boys saw off Chippa United with a hard-fought 1-0 victory last week Sunday, courtesy of Mduduzi Shabalala’s solitary goal.

The 20-year-old sensation had a moment of individual brilliance when he dazzled past four defenders, entered Chippa’s 18-area, and fired a shot past Nigeria’s number-one goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to seal all three points for Amakhosi.

Needless to say, Amakhosi have been blowing hot and cold this season under coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Even though they started like a house on fire – winning their opening two games and putting four goals past SuperSport United in the first round of the
Carling Knockout.

From there onwards, it was trouble in paradise as they  managed to win only two games out of eight in all competitions.

One would imagine that the win against the Chilli Boys will serve as a massive confidence booster for Amakhosi going into the second half of the season.

They will, however, be going up against a tricky City side that is enduring its fair share of problems down in the Mother City. The Citizens are currently sitting in the danger zone with 11 points – three points away from relegation in the Betway Premiership.

The appointment of Ertugral comes at a time when the former Chiefs mentor needs to hit the ground running and steady the sinking City.
