Discarded former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lesedi Kapinga has joined Sekhukhune United on a three-year deal.
Sunday World can reveal that Kapinga signed on the dotted line on Tuesday night and has already joined his new teammates at the club.
Beefing up squad
“Ba Bina Noko” are highly ambitious this season. They have also beefed up their team with Sundowns midfield maestro Sipho Mbule, who is on loan until the end of the season. The team recently acquired the services of Bafana head performance analyst Sinesipho Mali.
Sekhukhune have also roped in former University of Pretoria, SuperSport United and Marumo Gallants midfielder Thabo Mnyamane to the club.
Retired dazzling attacking midfielder is now one of the performance analysts. The three-time capped South African international has been without a club for two years. This is following a knee injury he suffered while with his last club Gallants.
Unsuccessful stint with the Brazilians, Buccaneers
The 29-year-old Kapinga had joined Pirates at the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign. This was after an unsuccessful stint with the Brazilians, where he struggled for game time. Kapinga faced the same difficult situation at the Buccaneers and could not crack a start under coach Jose Riveiro.
“He has signed for Sekhukhune, and everything has been done. And he joins them on a three-year contract, and he is already at the club. I think we all know his qualities. And they believe he will add a lot of value to the Sekhukhune squad,” said an informant close to the events.
Kapinga made 13 appearances in Pirates’ colours in all competitions last season, where he provided one assist.
He struggled to break through in the attacking midfield position. There he competed with the likes of Relebohile Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi and Monnapule Saleng. It was clear that Kapinga was not in Riveiro’s plans as he did not play a single minute this season.
