Makhubedu to steer Sekhukhune’s ship against Pirates

Well-placed insiders at Sekhukhune United say coach McDonald Makhubedu will take over the reins when they play against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday night. The game at the Orlando Stadium kicks off at 7.30pm

This is after “Babina Noko” parted ways with coach Brandon “Brakkies” Truter, following the club’s exit out of the Carling Knockout Cup this past weekend. Makhubedu will work with former Free State Stars workhorse and captain Paulos Masehe. The pair will be in charge on an interim basis until  the club finalises talks over Truter’s exit package. TS Galaxy knocked Sekhukhune out of the cup competition via penalties.

Last season, Truter led Babina Noko to the finals of the Nedbank Cup where they lost 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion against the same Buccaneers they are playing against tonight. By virtue of reaching the finals, they qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The Limpopo side are in position 10 on the DStv Premiership log after registering 11 points. With the club having invested so much by signing quality players, they still had a rather slow start to the new season, losing five, drawing two and winning three of the league.

The club bosses are therefore perturbed by the poor results despite stellar acquisitions of  Sibusiso “Vila” Vilakazi, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Jammie Webber, Badra Ali Sangare and Linda Mntambo.

Sekhukhune captain Daniel Cardoso was quoted in the media saying that Truter’s departure will not affect them.

“It’s not up to the players [firing the coach]. We come here and do our business, it shouldn’t affect us. We do our business on the field and not in the office. We don’t worry about what happens in the office, that’s up to the coaches. We’re just here to play football,” he said.
