Manchester City have put themselves in the driving seat and have one foot in the UEFA Champions League semi-final after demolishing Bayern Munich 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Citizens put three goals past the German giants during their quarter-final first-leg encounter.
It was end-to-end stuff in the opening stages of the game, with both sides creating clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities.
City broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Spaniard Rodri pulled a curler from outside of the box to score his first goal in the Champions League.
The home side could have gone into the break with more than one goal, but Switzerland international goalkeeper Yann Sommer kept his side into the game with his fine saves.
The visitors came out guns blazing in the second-half, with returning Leroy Sane testing shot stopper Ederson with three consecutive attempts, but failed to hit the net.
City’s attack finally paid off in the 70th minute when Jack Grealish forced defender Dayot Upemacano to make a defensive error by intercepting his misplaced pass and set up Erling Haaland with a back heel.
Haaland spotted Bernado Silva in the far post and whipped in a cross that allowed Silva to hit the back of the net with a header.
Six minutes later, goal machine Haaland put the game to bed when he tapped in a headed pass by John Stones from a corner to record his 45th goal in his debut season with City.
Newly appointed manager Thomas Tuchel and his charges have a mountain to climb heading into the second leg, as they will be desperate to produce a result at the Allianz Arena in Germany next Wednesday.
