Man U, Arsenal gun for each other early in the season

The long and probably most-anticipated league globally is back in full swing, and what a way to kick off the English Premier League with a mouthwatering Super Sunday clash between Manchester United and Arsenal this evening.

The game is scheduled to get underway at 5:30pm (SA time) at the Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford.

Both teams go into the match looking to kick off their league campaign on a positive note and bag maximum points to set the tone of what is expected to be yet another action-packed and exciting season. The last time the two sides met, it was a 1-1 stalemate at Old Trafford, with Bruno Fernandes and Declan Rice both on target for their respective teams.

United and coach Ruben Amorim will want to forget about the horror season that they had, where they finished in the bottom half at number 15 – their worst-ever finish in the Premier League era.

This season, with the signings that they have made of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, United are tipped to do way better than they did previously, with more acquisitions expected to join the club.

For the Gunners and their coach, Mikel Arteta, it was yet again one of those seasons where they had a flying start but lost some steam along the way and fumbled the league.

So, this time around, it will probably be the season where Arteta and his side will want to stamp their authority early on and maintain a consistent run.

Arsenal also made much-needed reinforcements in key areas of their squad. They managed to land the signature of striker Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, as well as Noni Madueke and Kepa Arrizabalaga from cross-town rivals Chelsea.

With the number of signings Arsenal have made, Arteta will feel like he has significantly strengthened the core of his squad to go the distance in the title race come the end of the season.
