After playing a crucial role in knocking out Cape Town City out of the MTN8, Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane has since sent a heartfelt message to former employers.
Mdantsane played a key role in Amakhosi’s last-minute 2-1 win over the Citizens in their quarterfinal clash, when he provided a world-class assist for Ashley du Preez to level the score.
Reflecting on the bittersweet moment, Mdantsane said it felt good to be back in the Mother City where he spent three seasons, but had to put emotions aside and help Chiefs win.
“I obviously had to respect the team that I used to play for, they helped me a lot,” Mdantsane told Sunday World recently.
“I give thanks to them for giving me the opportunity to represent the club for all these years.
“But I’m a professional, I am in a new team and I must give my best and make sure that we get the results. That is exactly what I did, providing an assist [for the equalising goal].
“Otherwise, it was a great feeling to be back in Cape Town to see my former teammates.”
The 28-year-old rejoined his development club on a three-year deal, having left as a youngster and established himself at Baroka FC and later at Cape Town City.
He has since impressed under Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki and has seemingly cemented his position in the middle of the park alongside Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo.
Amakhosi are back in action against Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium on Wednesday evening, and Mdantsane is expected to be in the starting 11.
Kick-off is at 7.30pm.
