Mamelodi Sundowns-bound star Junior Mendieta has confirmed his transfer by sending a heartfelt farewell message to Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday.
The South American skillful winger is reported to have signed with the DStv Premiership champions for the upcoming 2023/24 season, who are expected to announce his arrival at Chloorkop in the next coming days.
Sundowns are understood to have won the race to sign the most-wanted player in the league, who was said to be on the radar of SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs, among others.
“I am respectfully addressing you to thank you for the opportunity and the love that you have given me all these years,” he wrote on his social media.
“I think I have done my job very well and I have always given my best and that leaves me at ease. I will always carry Stellenbosch in my heart and be grateful for all the love and affection they gave me and my family. Greetings and thank you.”

Mendieta was an instrumental figure in coach Steve Barker’s side that finished inside the top eight last season and went all the way to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, where they knocked out Sundowns.
The 29-year-old leaves Stellies having played 79 matches in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists in two seasons.
