Despite Mamelodi Sundowns going into their MTN8 semifinal second-leg clash with a slender one-goal advantage, Rulani Mokwena maintains Chiefs will not be a walkover.
Sundowns will be scrambling for a spot in the Wafa Wafa final against Amakhosi at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking at a media briefing in Parktown on Thursday, Mokwena said their one-goal advantage will not mean anything if they do not show up against the Glamour Boys.
“We have a small advantage, an advantage that we worked very hard to get, but it will mean nothing if we don’t pitch in the second leg,” Mokwena told the media.
“At Sundowns, we try to win every match and it will not be any different [against Chiefs] on Saturday, even though it’s going to be very difficult because contrary to what the result suggests, we are playing against a very good side – a very improved Kaizer Chiefs team.
“I watched both their games against Royal AM and SuperSport [United], and I saw a completely different side that played against us in the first leg.
“To be honest, they are a good side, they have some good players, and they create quite a lot more chances.”
The Brazilians are in agonizing form having won all of their seven games in the league and extending their unbeaten run in the PSL to 31 matches – breaking the long-standing record set by Amakhosi back in 2005.
Sundowns do, however, go up against a side that is wounded and seriously desperate to get back to winning ways following back-to-back disappointing results against SuperSport on Wednesday night and Royal AM on Saturday.
The encounter is expected to be a sold-out affair and the safety and security cluster has since made it known that it will have all hands-on-deck come match day.
