Mamelodi Sundowns only have one mission in Cairo — get that early goal, then defend for dear life. But, for that to happen, the experienced players will have to rise to the occasion.
Sundowns and Pyramids will be wrapping up their CAF Champions League final tie at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday evening. The game will get underway at 7pm.
The two sides are level at 1-1 following their first leg draw in Tshwane last Saturday. Pyramids scored late through Walid El Karti to put themselves in the driving seat in the tie with an away goal.
So, if coach Miguel Cardoso’s boys are to turn things around in Cairo, they must win, or score more than once in a draw to claim the tie on away goals.
Defender Mothobi Mvala called on all the experienced players to take responsibility and push for that historic second continental star.
“We need experienced players to come to the party, especially in the change room, to push the guys so we can win this game,” Mvala said ahead of the game.
“We played Pyramids FC before, and it’s not going to be an easy game because we have to get a result in Egypt.”
The newly crowned Betway Premiership champions boast players who have vast continental experience at the club and national levels.
Ronwen Williams, Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana, Mvala, Aubrey Modiba, Themba Zwane, Teboho Mokoena, Thapelo Morena, and Jayden Adams were part of the Bafana Bafana squad that finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Ivory Coast last year.
The likes of Chilean Marcelo Allende, Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro, Namibian Peter Shalulile, and Ugandan goalkeeper Denis Onyango also bring in plenty of Champions League experience.
