Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are in pursuit of their first DStv Premiership victory against TS Galaxy, and newly recruited Given Msimango will be in the forefront plotting the downfall of his former employers this afternoon.
Bernard Parker, a former Chiefs goal poacher, who is now in the books of Galaxy, will also relish an opportunity to hurt his former club.
So, there’s a lot at stake in this afternoon’s encounter.Â
Amakhosi will be scrambling for maximum points at the Mbombela Stadium. Kick-off time is at 3pm.
It will be a bitter-sweet moment for Msimango as he will be facing his former side for the first time since jumping ship at the beginning of the season in search of greener pastures at Naturena.
The 26-year-old defender joined Chiefs in July on a four-year deal as one of the seven new acquisitions for coach Molefi Ntseki’s reign.
The Glamour Boys will be looking to build from their MTN8 quarterfinal dramatic win over Cape Town City, when Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo scored the winning goal in stoppage time.
Msimango also dons jersey No 25, which used to be worn by Parker, who will be on the other side scheming propellants to launch the rocket that will send Ntseki and his side back to the village empty-handed.
Amakhosi are languishing at the bottom half of the table with one point after two outings, following their frustrating goalless draw against Chippa United in their opening match, and a disappointing 2-1 defeat to the reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Rockets are, on the other hand, high in confidence after their positive start to the season – picking up a victory in their first game against newcomers Cape Town Spurs and a draw against the Chilli Boys.
Galaxy are sitting on number seven with four points and a win will be vital for them.
