The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that tickets for the MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns sold out just 18 hours after they were made available to the public.
The match tickets for the much-anticipated encounter went on sale at 3pm on Thursday and were sold out by 9am on Friday.
Pirates and Sundowns will battle it out for the new-look Wafa Wafa trophy at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on October 7.
In a statement, the PSL confirmed that it will work closely with police security personnel to curb any illegal activities and ensure the safety of spectators.
“The PSL is working closely with the South African Police Service and several other safety and security role players to ensure a safe and secure event,” it said in a statement.
“As part of stringent security measures around the stadium, people engaging in illegal behaviour such as ticket peddling will face immediate arrest.
“There will be no tickets sold at the stadium.”
The Sea Robbers, who are the defending champions of the MTN8, booked their ticket to the final by fine margins when they went past Stellenbosch FC on an away-goal rule.
This after the teams played to a 2-2 draw on aggregate.
On the other hand, Masandawana’s road to the final has been the talk of the town after they controversially defeated Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 on aggregate.
Embattled referee Luxolo Badi was proved to have made sluggish officiating mistakes that cost Amakhosi a place in a final and an opportunity to end their eight-year trophy drought.
The final will get under way at 6pm and all ticket holders are advised to make their way to the stadium early. The gates open at 2pm.
