Newbie Thabiso Monyane upbeat after Chiefs’ pre-season camp in Netherlands

Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing, Thabiso Monyane, says that their pre-season camp in the Netherlands was worth the while, and he believes that Amakhosi have made huge progress ahead of the new season.

The 2025/26 season will commence at the beginning of August with MTN8 quarterfinal fixtures, but Chiefs will miss out after they finished outside the top eight bracket in the Betway Premiership.

This might be a blessing in disguise for Amakhosi, who could use the free time wisely to fine-tune players and give them more time to settle down.

The hard-running 25-year-old Monyane, who hails from Thembisa, joined Orlando Pirates as a teenager six years ago.

He made a surprise transfer move to archrivals Kaizer Chiefs in the off-season.

After four weeks in the Netherlands, Chiefs will return to South Africa this weekend and prepare for the Toyota Cup against Asante Kotoko at Moses Mabhida Stadium on July 26.

Amakhosi have played five friendly matches during their pre-season camp in the Netherlands.

“I feel that there has been massive progression since we played our first game against Vitesse last week Tuesday,” said the right-back defender.

“Our time in the Netherlands, facing really good opponents, has been a good experience.”

Monyane feels that thanks to the camp in the Netherlands, the team is well-prepared for the Toyota Cup next weekend.

“I feel optimistic. We are Kaizer Chiefs, a club with a rich history. We have seen in Holland how big the club is, with so many fans coming out to support us. We don’t want to disappoint them.

“If Kaizer Chiefs do well, the country does well. We want to put a smile on our supporters’ faces.

“I have been received well by the technical team, the players, and the staff, arriving from the other side of Soweto. It has been a breath of fresh air, and I am embracing a new culture,” he said.
