Despite Hugo Broos making strong remarks about Kaizer Chiefs players not doing enough to earn a Bafana Bafana call-up, not all hope is lost for Given Msimango.
Recent remarks by Broos struck a nerve to many of the Amakhosi faithful including head coach Molefi Ntseki.
Msimango, 26, made it in Broos’ preliminary squad but was not selected in the final 23-men squad that faced Namibia and DR Congo.
The friendly matches were played on Saturday and Tuesday, respective at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
Msimango, the composed Amakhosi centre-back, is determined to continue improving his game and is in no rush to prove Broos otherwise.
“I just have to continue doing the good work that I’ve been doing for Kaizer Chiefs,” Msimango said at a media briefing in Naturena, southern Johannesburg on Thursday.
“I will only be judged on the performance I give for my club. That is what I will continue doing and not look anywhere else but focus on my performance for the club.”
Msimango said people need to understand that everyone, including Broos, is entitled to their opinions and observations about footballers and football clubs.
“My job is simple and it is to respect those opinions. We have five months until the Afcon [Africa Cup of Nations], so your performance will put you in the team come January.
“No favours will be done [to be selected for the final Afcon squad] … you can’t fool the South Africans. They are huge lovers of the game, and they understand the game.”
Chiefs are enjoying a two-game unbeaten run in the DStv Premiership and Msimango is confident they have what it takes to beat Royal AM at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 5.30pm.
