Kaizer Chiefs and Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe has questioned the appointment of Molefi Ntseki as Amakhosi new head coach, saying it is a total mismatch.
This after Chiefs made a surprise announcement on Wednesday that Ntseki will now take over from Arthur Zwane with immediate effect ahead of the new season.
Speaking during the English Premier League 30 Africa XI media event at MultiChoice headquarters in Randburg on Thursday, Radebe said his former club should have appointed someone better to steer the sinking Amakhosi ship.
“For me, I thought we [Chiefs] could have gotten somebody better,” said Radebe.
“Not that Ntseki is not good enough, but I feel like he hasn’t proven himself enough to be a quality coach for a big club like Kaizer Chiefs, it’s a mismatch for me. I might be wrong, he might take Chiefs to greater heights … we will have to wait and see.
“They have their own reason why [they appointed Ntseki as a coach], but for me, as big as a club like Kaizer Chiefs, you need someone who is going to be quality and has a great reputation as a coach.”
It goes without saying that the technical team reshuffle at Naturena has come as a shock to many South Africans, particularly the Amakhosi faithful, who are not convinced Ntseki has what it takes to take Chiefs back to their glory days.
Ntseki now becomes the 7th coach to be appointed by Chiefs in the last five years and will be under pressure to end their eight-year trophy drought, with the MTN8 set to be his first test in the hot seat.
