The on-form Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng is having the time of his life, after he made the 23-man Bafana Bafana squad ahead of international friendly matches this week.
It is without a shed of doubt that the tricky and speedy winger deserves to be in Hugo Broos’ set-up following his impressive start to the 2022/23 Premier Soccer League campaign with the Buccaneers.
His stand-out performance was in the MTN8 semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns, where he contributed immensely to the 3-0 hammering of the reigning DStv Premiership champions, scoring two goals and assisting in one.
Saleng went on to lead his side to victory in the final of Wafa wafa, when he curled in a freekick near the corner flag, leaving the AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa wanting.
Speaking to Safa media this week, Saleng said: “I think being in the national team is everyone’s desire, because I started off at Cosafa, then I had to work hard to be a part of the first team set-up,” he said.
The 24-year-old also shed light on his ultimate dream to cement his place in the squad.
“My biggest dream is to play overseas. I want to play overseas, and I ultimately want to be a regular in the national team.”
Bafana will play their first friendly match against Mozambique on Thursday at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga before they face Angola on Sunday at the same venue.
