Orbit College is in the driving seat of the PSL promotional playoffs after stealing a 1-0 win at the death against Casric Stars. The match took place at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, Kwa-Mhlanga on Saturday.
Thanks to the solitary 80th-minute winning goal from forward Lethabo Modimoeng; this strike ensures that Casric sit on top of the table with five points after three matches.
For Casric, the result means that they drop to the bottom of the mini-table and will have to win against Cape Town City in their last game on 30 June if they are to keep their promotion hopes to the Betway Premiership alive. It will be the final game of the playoffs.
Crossing fingersÂ
However, they also have to cross their fingers that the next result between Orbit and City goes their way when the two sides battle it out at the Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg this coming Wednesday.
Orbit will only require a draw against the Citizens, which will be enough to gain them promotion to the PSL top-flight next season.
Despite Casric dominating most parts of the game, it was once again one of those bad days at the office for the Mpumalanga-based outfit and coach Joseph Mthombeni, as they could not find the back of the net.
Unlike the previous match against the Citizens, where they forced a 1-1 draw from the jaws of defeat through a late penalty goal, they could not dig deeper than they did last Saturday.
Instead, it was the visitors who pulled a sucker punch in the dying stages of the game to silence the home crowd and walk away with maximum points heading into the last round of matches.
