New signing Patrick Maswanganyi added salt on the Islanders wound with a stunning low strike from range.
Maswanganyi’s performance left coach Jose Riveiro in awe, saying he is impressed with how the former SuperSport United star has settled in the new environment.
“For me, if I must highlight something with the new players – when I say “new” I mean in this environment, playing for Pirates is not an easy thing,” Riveiro said after the game.
“It starts to show the level from the first game we played is something to highlight and I’m happy to see the progression of the guy.
“It’s important that he is surrounded by very good players, which makes things easy also for every individual in the team, we try to focus as much as we can on the collective.
“I understand that our collective structure is going to help every player to shine and to perform in the best level.
“It doesn’t matter who is playing, we try to do it in the same way with different details that every player as individual is going through on a certain day. So, I am very happy [with him].”
The Buccaneers will now shift their attention to Cape Town City, when their battle it out for three points in the DStv Premiership on Tuesday.
