Orlando Pirates’ new signing, Oswin Appollis, will, unfortunately, not have to wait longer to face his former employer, as his official game in the famous black and white will be against Polokwane City in the MTN8.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) released the competition’s dates and venues on Wednesday, with Bucs hosting City at the Orlando Stadium on August 2 at 3pm.
Appollis is one of 10 new players at the Buccaneers and is currently in Spain with the club for their ongoing pre-season tour.
The 23-year-old Bafana Bafana international emerged as a surprise signing for Pirates from Rise and Shine, despite being heavily linked with Kaizer Chiefs.
Speaking to the media for the first time as a Bucs player, Appollis said that joining the reigning MTN8 champions was a dream come true.
Warm welcome from Bucs players
“It is a dream come true to play for Pirates; playing for this great club is an honour. I always watched [Pirates] on TV; wearing this jersey means a lot to me,” Appollis told sportscaster Thomas Mlambo in Spain on Monday.
The speedy winger has been influential so far in the pre-season tour and has shown glimpses of his quality in a Pirates jersey.
He provided an assist for Relebohile Mofokeng during their 1-1 draw against Pafos from Cyprus on Sunday.
As far as settling into the team is concerned, Appollis revealed that fellow Capetonian and Pirates full-back Deano van Rooyen has been helping him get used to the new environment.
“He [Van Rooyen] has told me to always work hard and be positive. It’s been great having him around, but all the other players have helped me a lot, telling me that I don’t need to be shy and that I can ask them anything,” Appollis said.
Pirates will play Spanish outfit Las Palmas on Thursday evening and wrap up their tour against Granada on Saturday.
