Pitso misses out on coaching superstars

The timing of Pitso Mosimane’s exit at Saudi Arabia club Al Ahli was untimely, as he has missed out on an opportunity to coach some of the biggest superstars in the world of football.

The Saudi takeover is getting bigger and better than expected, as more European-based African stars are expected to join the Saudi Arabian Pro League during the transfer window after Senegal international goalkeeper Edouard Mendy’s big money move to Al Ahli Saudi.

Mendy, the highly-rated shot stopper, joined Mosimane’s former side from English Premier League giants Chelsea on a three-year deal. He became the latest high-profile signing in the Saudi Pro League, after countryman and another former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly, also made a big money move to Al-Hilal, penning down a three-year contract worth R400m.

Former Liverpool playmaker Roberto Firmino is also understood to have reached a verbal agreement with Al Ahli.

Mosimane, who is still in the Middle East after joining United Arab Emirates Pro league side Al Wahda, woke the sleeping giant in Al Ahli when he gained them promotion back to the Saudi top-flight and added the Second Division Yelo League trophy as a cherry on top.

It goes without saying that the Middle East has now become the land of milk and honey for many players across Europe.
