Pitso quits UAE job, intensifying Chiefs link

Coach Pitso Mosimane has parted ways with United Arab Emirates (UAE) side Al Wahda, five months after joining the club in June. He previously coached Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia before crossing over to the UAE.

After weeks of speculation, Mosimane’s management agency, MT Sports Marketing and Management, confirmed on Friday that the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly of Cairo coach and his technical team had left the club with immediate effect.

“Coach Pitso Mosimane and his technical team joined Al Wahda Football Club in June 2023, taking charge of the UAE Pro League squad. The South African-led technical team guided Al Wahda Football Club to the Arab Club Champions Cup quarterfinal stage in August 2023, which they played away in Saudi Arabia,” reads the statement from Mosimane’s agency.

“Al Wahda currently sits in fifth position on the log, five points behind the league leaders. Furthermore, Al Wahda remains a contender for the ADIB Cup after eliminating Emirates FC 8-0 in their last cup fixture. Coach Pitso Mosimane would like to thank the Al Wahda, the board, players, staff, and supporters for their warm welcome and support… He wishes them well for the remainder of the season and future endeavours,” concluded the statement.

Former assistant now at Chiefs

Mosimane, a former Bafana Bafana coach, has been strongly linked to take over as head coach at Kaizer Chiefs. The club has recently parted ways with head coach Molefi Ntseki, appointing technical team head Cavin Johnson as interim coach.

Ironically, Johnson worked as Mosimane’s assistant at Egyptian giants Al Ahly, two years ago.

A well-placed informer close to Mosimane recently revealed to this publication that Mosimane would be willing to take the Chiefs project if certain, specific things were changed in the way that the club is being run.

This is a developing story…
