PSL broke their own rules, says City boss

After they were pushed down to play in the relegation/promotion play-offs on Thursday, Cape Town City boss John Comitis says they are not taking their fight lying down and they have lodged an objection with the Premier Soccer League (PSL), which will be heard at an arbitration sitting on Wednesday.

They are accusing the league of flouting their own rules.

City are feeling hard done by after the PSL rescheduled the abandoned SuperSport United match against Golden Arrows, three months later.

The said game, which was played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on February 23, was abandoned due to floodlights failure.

The rescheduled match was played on Thursday, and it continued from where it was stopped, at the start of the second half, and it ended with a 1-1 scoreline, which resulted in Matsatsantsa a Pitori leapfrogging City to finish in position 14 on the log table.

City ended 15th in the league and were dragged to the relegation/promotion play-offs.
The Citizens are asking why, according to the PSL Handbook and rules, United did not forfeit the three points since they did not have a Plan-B, in the form of a generator.

Said Comitis: “SuperSport defaulted and they should lose the three points – that’s how football works.  We have to challenge this, it was a wrong decision.”
