PSL gives exhausted Sundowns much-needed breather

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has moved its fixtures around to accommodate Mamelodi Sundowns’ hectic schedule towards the business end of the proceedings.

Sundowns will play Tunisian giants Esperance in the second leg of the CAF Champions League semifinal at the Loftus Stadium on Friday night.

Sundowns lost the first leg 1-0 in Tunis last week.

The Brazilians find themselves in a similar position as last season, when they reached the semifinals of the Champions League but went into the second leg without that all-important away goal.

The DStv defending champions were also scheduled to face the Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday next week at FNB Stadium, however, the match will now be played on May 2.

The Brazilians’ already postponed match against TS Galaxy has been accommodated on another date.

Downs’ heavy fixture schedule

Sundowns, who have had to negotiate a heavy schedule because of their participation in the newly-launched African Football League and CAF Champions League, will now play their match against Galaxy on April 29.

This past Tuesday, the Brazilians sweated bucketloads when they recorded a narrow 2-1 victory over stubborn and well-coached Sekhukhune United.

Thapelo Morena and Tashreeq Matthews netted for Sundowns in the early stages of the match.

Babina Noko faced an uphill battle to secure the elusive equaliser after Chibuike Ohizu narrowed the gap for them.

Amakhosi chase elusive second win

At the weekend, Amakhosi will continue with their hunt for their second win of the year when they face SuperSport United.

United, who have lost their last 10 DStv Premiership games, are going through their own struggles. The match will take place on Saturday.

Both sides go into this weekend’s match having suffered defeats in their prior games.

The Glamour Boys went 1-0 down to Richards Bay in Durban at the weekend, and SuperSport suffered a home defeat in Pretoria at the hands of Chippa United.
