With the games coming thick and fast, Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to keep their winning momentum when they host Zesco United in a crucial CAF Confederations Cup Group D tie at the Moses Mabhida Stadium today at 3pm.
The in-form Amakhosi are enjoying a three-match winning streak since the start of the year and are on a mission to pick up from where they left off last Sunday, when they beat Zesco 1-0 out in Zambia.
It was also Chiefs’ first win in Zambia in the continental competition after five attempts, and a win today will be a cherry on top in what has been an interesting fixture between the two sides.
“We feel that we still have a big room for improvement, and we will always be going out there to compete in every game.
“Our focus now is the CAF Confederations game against Zesco, and we will try to make the best out of that game,” said Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze after their impressive win over Marumo Gallants midweek.
Should the Glamour Boys get maximum points in Durban this afternoon, they will take their point tally up to seven points, level with Egyptian side Al Masry, with two games to go.
Al Masry will also be playing later this evening against fellow Egyptians Zamalek. The latter are third with five points, while Amakhosi’s opponents, Zesco, still have nothing to show and languish at the bottom of the group.
Stellenbosch FC will also be contesting in the Confederations Cup today, when they play CR Belouizdad at home. Stellies suffered a setback to their good start in the Confederations Cup campaign when they lost 2-0 in Algeria last weekend.
The team from Winelands will look to bounce back and return to the top of Group C.
There will also be jam-packed action in the Champions League, when Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger will be in search of
nothing less than a win over Saint Eloi Lupopo in the Algerian capital tonight.
Mokwena’s side is at rock bottom in their group and faces a risk of being eliminated early in the competition, should they not win against the Congolese outfit.
Mamelodi Sundowns are leading the group and will look to stretch their lead at the top when they take on Lupopo on Friday.
