Richards Bay FC have officially announced Kaitano Tembo as their new head coach ahead of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
The announcement was initially supposed to have been made on Monday, however, it was delayed due to failed negotiations with Orlando Pirates for the services of Mandla Ngcikazi, who was the preferred candidate for the coaching job.
Tembo replaces Vasili Manousakis, who was shown the door along with his assistants Simo Dladla and Ronnie Gabriel following a string of poor results in the second half of their debut season.
The 52-year-old Tembo comes with vast experience, having coached Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United, where he won the MTN8 in 2019. He will be assisted by Siboniso Gumede, who is currently with the squad training for the new season.
“Richards Bay Football Club would like to confirm the appointment of Kaitano Tembo as the new head coach,” said the club in a statement on Thursday evening.
“Kaitano Tembo is a familiar face in South African football, he has been in the DStv Premiership with the likes of SuperSport United Football Club and Sekhukhune United Football Club, respectively. We welcome the coach and wish him all the best.”

With the club having already signed two new players in striker Justice Figareido from All Stars FC and Thato Mohlamme from Uthongathi FC, club chairman Sifiso Biyela will hope the new acquisitions will bring some spark back to the team.
