Safa ‘sneaks in’ policy item to deal with defiant NEC members

The rebellious and outspoken Safa national executive committee members are up in arms with regard to an item that they claim has been sneaked and inserted into the association’s agenda for the coming meeting on June 20.

The item is about Safa’s “communications policy and the violation of the policy”, and the members believe that the association wants to use it to punish them for having been outspoken about their grievances and the allegations they made that the association is being run to the ground.

News reaching this publication is that the defiant NEC members, who are fighting for change and accusing Safa president Danny Jordaan of corruption and running the organisation into the ground, could be facing suspension for publicly hanging the organisation’s dirty linen.

The association is alleged to be angry with the members raising sensitive issues in the media and in public.

The members are Gladwyn White (Northern Cape) Bhudda Mathathe (Masters and Legends), Orapeleng Setlhare (North West) and other disgruntled officials.

On May 30, Safa CEO Lydia Monyepao circulated dates and the agenda to members. It partly reads: “Please note the next ordinary meeting of the NEC will be held as follows: Friday, 20 June 2025, venue to be confirmed. Adjourned matters from the meeting held on 25 January 2025 will be dealt with. Violation of the policy 4. Correspondence received from NEC members 4.1 Mr Gladwyn White 4.2. Mr Lebohang Riet…”

Said Mathathe: “We are aware of this, and we know that they want to gag us. We will continue to fight for what is right… even when we are out. Concerned SA football people are raising the same issues we are raising – even the portfolio committee on sports raised the same matters this week and the association did not have
answers.”

White said: “Let them bring it on! Jordaan has reached a cul-de-sac, trapped in a thick web with nowhere to run. He’s suffering from amnesia, he forgets that he withdrew the same point “communication policy” in what should’ve been his last NEC meeting to preside over. What has changed since?”

Setlhare added that the association embarrassed the football fraternity when it appeared in Parliament, and that it is time for new leadership that can take SA football to the next level. Safa had not responded at the time of going to press.
