Sekhukhune coach Truter clears the air, commits to Babina Noko

Following days of speculation and uncertainty, Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter has cleared the air on recent remarks that he would be considering his future at the club.

Truter hinted recently that his time at Babina Noko could be over following their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Golden Arrows over a week ago.

The loss was the club’s fourth defeat since the DStv Premiership season got underway in August.

Addressing the media during the Carling Black Label Knockout launch at Hyde Park Corner in Johannesburg on Tuesday, Truter said his post-match comments were clouded by emotions.

He added that the management of the club understands why he remarked the way he did.

“I think my comments after the game against Arrows were taken a bit out of context,” Truter told the media.

“I believe all coaches somehow go through that phase in their careers. It had been a very tough two weeks leading up to that game, where we had not seen our families from the traveling all over Africa [playing in the CAF Confederations Cup].

“So, it was more like speaking from an emotional point of view more than anything, and the management fully understands where it came from.”

Sekhukhune were drawn against Royal AM in the new knockout competition and Brakkies, as Truter is fondly known, said he is looking forward to a difficult battle.

“Royal AM are a very difficult team to play and my admiration for the coach [John Maduka] is very massive because of how he integrated the young players to the first team,” he said.

“It makes them a brave team and it will always be a difficult, intense and exciting game, considering the history between the two teams during the promotion battle [in 2021].

“So, I am looking forward to the match.”

The dates and venues for all the eight fixtures are yet to be confirmed by the Premier Soccer League.
