While football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the return of on-field action, there has been a flurry of activity behind the scenes as Betway Premiership and Motsepe Foundation Championship clubs bolster their technical departments and rosters in preparation for the upcoming season.
In Limpopo, Sekhukhune United has announced the departure of several players. These include their right-back, Katlego Mkhabela, Pogiso Mahlangu, and goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangaré. The club, affectionately known as Babina Noko, has also revealed the extension of contracts for seasoned players such as Linda Mntambo, Chibuike Ohizu, Daniel Cardoso, Vusimuzi Ncube, and Tresor Tshibwabwa.
Unwavering commitment and tenacity
“These players have demonstrated unwavering commitment and tenacity. And we anticipate that they will continue to embody this spirit within our family,” stated United in their media release.
In the Western Cape, Stellenbosch FC has confirmed the acquisition of striker Muzomuhle Khanyi on a permanent transfer from Hungry Lions. The 26-year-old forward has capped an illustrious season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, finishing as the league’s top goal scorer with 17 goals.
Upon penning his signature, Khanyi expressed delight.
“It is a privilege to join a club that embodies a winning mentality such as Stellenbosch FC. This is unequivocally one of the most consequential decisions I have made in my career. And I already feel at home here,” he said.
Owen da Gama
“I am here to learn. I recognise that the transition will be challenging, as I am stepping up from the National First Division. But I aspire to maintain the form I exhibited last season.”
Meanwhile, former Magesi FC coach Owen da Gama, who recently parted ways with the Limpopo club, has been linked to the newly promoted Betway Premiership side, Durban City. The KwaZulu-Natal-based team has seen the departure of their head coach, Simo Dladla, who guided them to the elite league and has since joined AmaZulu as an assistant to Arthur “10111” Zwane.
