Banyana Banyana forward Jermaine Seoposenwe says she is privileged and honoured to have reached the 100 international caps’ milestone for the women’s national team on Tuesday.
Seoposenwe made her 100th appearance for Banyana during their second leg of the third-round Olympic qualifier match against Tanzania at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.
She received memorabilia from SA Football Association president Danny Jordaan and title sponsor Sasol in front of a respectable fan turnout.
The 30-year-old made her senior international debut in 2010 against Zimbabwe.
Growing by leaps and bounds
“It’s a privilege and honour to always walk out for the national team, we’ve grown by leaps and bounds in the 14 years that I’ve been with the national team,” Seoposenwe told the media after the match.
“Everyone has played such a big role in my journey with the national team, with all the ups and downs.
“The only thing I can do is thank God for sparring me this long in the national team —making good friends. I thank the coaches, staff, and the football association for also contributing to my journey.
“Being part of this winning team is amazing; we’ve grown so much. Coming from the Wafcon [Women’s Africa Cup of Nations] to the World Cup, you can see the growth in this team, where we are going, and what we want to achieve.”
Banyana prepare to meet Nigeria
South Africa advanced to the next round after winning the match 1-0 (4-0 on aggregate) to set up a meeting with their rivals, Nigeria, for a ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games in France, thanks to a well-orchestrated second-half goal by captain Thembi Kgatlana.
Kgatlana found the back of the net after an assist from substitute Kholosa Biyana.
Nigeria advanced to the fourth round following their 1-0 victory against Cameroon on Monday.
Having missed out on the previous Olympics in 2020, Seoposenwe and Banyana will be on a mission to return to the global stage.
