Sundowns, Pirates, Chiefs, and Durban City learn their CAF opponents

The South African contingent that will be participating in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup has learnt who their opponents will be when the interclub competitions kick off in September.

Kaizer Chiefs will face the winner between Red Arrows from Zambia and FC Rouge from Madagascar in the preliminary round, in order to qualify for the group stages of the Confederations Cup.

Durban City, who won the Nedbank Cup last season, will be campaigning in the CAF interclub for the first time when they take on Rukinzo FC from Burundi.

The Confederation Cup first preliminary round first legs will be played between 4-6 September, while the return legs will be played later between 11-13 September.

The second preliminary round will then take place from 16-18 October, and the return legs on 23-25 October. The group stages will officially get underway between 27-29 November.

Reigning Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns, who are among the exempted teams, having moved into top spot in the CAF rankings, will entertain the winner between Wiliete SC (Angola) and Foresters FC (Seychelles) in the second preliminary round.

The Betway Premiership champions Orlando Pirates will kick off their Champions League campaign against La Cure Waves from Mauritania.

The Buccaneers will be looking to rectify last season’s heartbreak, when they got shell-shocked by Saint-Eloi Lupopo, who beat them on penalties after a 3-3 draw in the second preliminary round.
