Mamelodi Sundowns has developed a visionary and ambitious strategy for the future of the club with the appointment of Paulo Cardoso as the Head Of Academy.
Cardoso will be leading and running the Sundowns development academy as the club strives to produce the best possible footballers with a holistic approach to the individuals and making sure that school-education is at the highest level for the academy players.
Speaking about the appointment, Masandawana’s technical director, Flemming Berg said: “Hiring a new Head of Academy isn’t just a recruitment process; it’s a pivotal moment in shaping the future of our club.
“Paulo comes with extensive knowledge from the highest international level and has worked with some of the absolute best players in the world like Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Bruma.”
Paulo, who joins Sundowns from Fluminense FC in Brazil, where he served as a youth consultant, has international experience from various countries like Portugal, Bulgaria, Australia and China returns to South Africa, having worked as part of the KZN Football Academy.
The PSL defending champions are undergoing a transformation with chairman Tlhopie Motsepe announcing on Wednesday that he will be pursuing his studies and growing the Motsepe family businesses on the continent.
“I would like to inform you that I have undertaken additional responsibilities on top of my primary role as the chairman of the club, which will result in me not attending as many football matches as I did in the past.
“I will be pursuing personal, business and academic interests in Europe, as well as advancing the Motsepe family business ventures on the African continent,” Motsepe informed the club’s supporters.
