Mamelodi Sundowns forward Arthur Sales has warned Fluminense that they will be ready to match their quality when they meet in their final Group F clash on Wednesday night.
Sundowns and the Brazilian powerhouse are both in search of a win in their quest to book a spot in the round of 16 of the Fifa Club World Cup.
The game will get underway at 9pm (SA time) at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
Sales, who has participated in the previous two matches against Ulsan and Borussia Dortmund, expressed confidence and preparedness for a successful outcome.
“I think when Fluminense watched our game against Dortmund, they saw the quality we will bring to the pitch against them,” Sales said ahead of the match.
“It’s going to be a good game because both teams play the same kind of football. All their players are good, and they are fit to play for a team as good as Fluminense.
“We know that the likes of John Arias, Thiago Silva, and Matheus Martinelli will give us a tough time, but we are ready and excited to take them on, hoping for a positive result.”
Many lessons learnt
Sales, along with the rest of the team, aims to build on their impressive performance against Dortmund, where they outperformed the German giants despite losing 4-3.
“I think everyone is very proud of the performance we displayed. We took many lessons from that match.
“When you play such big teams, you get to learn a lot, and we did. We can apply these lessons in our next game when we face Fluminense. The competition in this tournament is of the highest level.
‘Participating in this tournament and playing these games has proven that Mamelodi Sundowns can match the level of competition with the different teams,” he added.
Sundowns currently hold the third position in the group with three points, while Fluminense holds the top spot and are tied with Dortmund on four points.
Ulsan sit at the bottom with no results and have already lost the competition.
