The seemingly disorganised South African Football Association (Safa) has prompted numerous club members to seek recourse through the judicial system.
On Wednesday, law enforcement officials entered the pitch at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo, armed with an interdict to halt the ABC Motsepe League match between Mpheni Home Defenders and Dolphins FC.
This encounter was pivotal in determining which club would represent Limpopo in the upcoming ABC Motsepe League national play-offs, scheduled to take place at the Giant Stadium and Lucas Moripe Stadium in Soshanguve and Atteridgeville, respectively.
Despite the legal intervention, the match proceeded, culminating in a 5-4 victory for Dolphins in a tense penalty shootout.
As it stands, uncertainty looms over whether Sunrise FC, which has filed an interdict to prevent the Dolphins and Mpheni Home Defenders from participating, will disrupt the forthcoming national play-offs next week.
With the week-long national play-offs commencing on Tuesday, Safa appears to be racing against time to rectify its internal issues, as disputes regarding the rightful clubs to represent their provinces remain unresolved.
By Friday, June 27, provinces such as Western Cape and North West had yet to finalise their representatives.
Safa’s director of competitions Kwenza Ngwenya did not respond to Sunday World enquiries.
