First division side Orbit College has given itself a major advantage in the PSL relegation/promotion play-offs after peeling away from Cape Town City and Casric Stars in the race to win a spot in the land of milk and honey that is the Betway Premiership next season.
Orbit defeated Stars in a rather exciting affair that was played at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in KwaMhlanga yesterday. This season’s play-offs have been characterised by a clutter of goalless draws, but the situation changed when Orbit defeated Stars in front of their home supporters.
Stars know that with the current situation, it will take a miracle for them to progress to the PSL. They are left with one match and will round off the play-offs when they face the Citizens on June 30.
Orbit are left with one game against City, while the Capetonians have two matches to complete the series. So, everything is still up in the air.
There was not much to write home about, except for a spell of madness when the two teams failed to score in a matter of seconds.
Orbit were the first to fluff their chance when Siyabulela Mabele tried to round Stars goalkeeper Emile Lako, who pulled a fine save to deny the striker.
From the save, Lako launched Stars forwards, and Thabang Rakwena ballooned the ball skywards after he connected to a cross from Mohluri Ubisi on the left. Mabele broke the deadlock when his deflected shot bamboozled Lako in the goals.
